Can I first of all just say I am SO happy you are here on Substack?! Ahhhh! And thank you for the oh-so-kind essay shoutout! I love love your nose ring. Subtle yet a tad rebellious. I also just finished Tom Lake—fun to think that we were probably reading it at the same time! Another funny coincidence is that Josh *loves* that Good Earth tea and we have a regular stock of it passing through our home as well. One final thing: I hope you all are feeling better and that you felt so loved and celebrated on your birthday! And ok ok one more final thing... this is my official stance on birthdays: "I believe in celebrating a day of this beautiful and complex life in technicolour." Amen to that.

Eek thank you friend!! The water is quite fine over here in Substack land 😅 I don’t know why I procrastinated so much. I guess I just loved my wee blog. You need to get your nose pierced!!! You would suit it so much. But maybe something to look forward to postpartum—you don’t need the extra pain while pregnant 🤪 I LOVE the thought that we were reading Tim Lake together—look at us book-clubbing completely unaware. In hindsight it wasn’t a hugely eventful or mind-blowing plot, I really just enjoyed the details and dynamics of family life. A nice encouragement that our lives hold many stories even if it feels like nothing ‘exciting’ ever happens to us. Also, that tea!! I’m so glad I have Josh’s favourite tea on hand if you ever make a trip to Ireland 👀 I can’t remember where I got the tip, but someone told me to add a splash of milk and a dash of honey and it really takes it to the next level 👌🏻

YAY for nose piercings! I got mine last fall (at 36) after wanting one for yeeears. I adore your chunky sweater, I want that jumpsuit, I'm jealous you're re-reading Demon Copperhead (so I guess I should, too), and I absolutely adored your birthday recap. LOLd at "March 2020 called and asked for its trauma back" and felt swoony over your ending. The "happy" part of your banner remaining seems like such a (literal) sign.

Okay, I immediately feel a lot more cool and confident about my nose piercing if Laura Rennie has one too! Yay for doing the thing we’ve always wanted to do!!! Honestly, Demon Copperhead is even better second time round. I know you appreciate the ‘story that destroys my soul’ genre as much as I do. I am savouring the magical writing this time. The “happy” banner is still up almost 2 weeks later - I am clearly very much clinging onto that literal sign 🤷🏼‍♀️ Thanks for your kind comment, friend 💕

1. Happy birthday!! 2. I love that colorful sweater!! 3. Audio books are life. I get so much more reading in because of them! Currently listening to “none of this is true” and I’m HOOKED! 4. Love this sentence so much: “For the comfort of rolling into the indent of your husband on his side of the bed—an imperfect fit but perfect for feeling held, much like marriage itself.”

Sara I trust your recommendations so I managed to get None Of This Is True on audio as part of my Spotify membership and I have to confess I am a complete wimp so I’m already concerned it’s a thriller! 😂 This will be one for daylight hours!

This book was way outside my usual wheelhouse—it’s def a psychological thriller! Cant wait to discuss the ending with you and Dani and Bec!! lol And I LOVE the Spotify free audiobook with membership!! I listened to John Mark Comer’s Practicing The Way on it last month!

Update: I am absolutely hooked on None Of This Is True. Creeped out, but hooked. So much so that I’m listening on audio when on the move and reading on Libby when sitting still nursing 😂 Would you recommend Practicing The Way?

I listened while doing dishes, while walking, while cleaning rooms at work, in the car…LOL! That’s when you know a book is well written!

I would definitely recommend practicing the way, but I have read nearly everything Comer has written so I’m well acquainted with his style (it can be a bit repetitive)…it was a good listen but I wished I could have highlighted things to reference later….but maybe not good enough for me to pay money to buy it so I can do that LOL
